However, the software for pharmacy students or lecturers is few and almost same. They usually involve a program that brings a lot of online study resource in one place. Take, for example, a software for textbooks and resources such as codex or essential medicine index (EMDex).
For an industrial pharmacist who wants to automate drug production process, it is a different ball game. Most of such software is not available online. They require the service of a computer expert or programmer who will use it to control the production process. This makes it very expensive.
For retail pharmacists and others, there are a countless number of software available. They do many things to reduce the stress of pharmacy in stores. Let us look at some of them.
Some Software For Pharmacy
- Proprietary Retail Pharmacy Software
This software is developed to give greater control to pharmacist
- Intercom Plus
You can interact with other medical experts through e-mail. Assist in printing label.
- RXConnect
From simple to complex pharmacy activities. However, the major disadvantage of this is that it requires the knowledge of computer keyboard.
- NexGen
Good easy interface
- MTMpath:
Others are:
a. Abacaspx
b. Liberty software
c. Pioneer Rx: online backup.
However, choosing a good software requires knowing features you want and how easy it is. But, there is a problem with the most software for pharmacy. Since non-pharmacist mostly designs them, having a software that will satisfy all the want of a pharmacist is very difficult. The few pharmacist who has developed software have not been able to successfully meet these requirements either because they may not have studied computer programming to a high degree. This is a very lucrative aspect for pharmacy students who want to further and make some good money in the profession.
Features Of A Good Software
To choose a good software, a pharmacist should look out for the following:
- System Stability: Fast and accurate is the first desire of any software user. That means it should not hang or freeze during use.
- User Interface: Can you navigate easily with it? If yes is your answer, then that software is great. Poor user interface results in difficulty in usability.
- Affordable: Some are very expensive. Others are cheap or even free. However, there is something any buyer must know; the price may not at all times translate to mean the best. Always check reviews before buying.
- Economic: The software should not consume too much data if it is online, power consumption, paper usage, ink usage, light as in size in Megabyte etc.
- Integration: Some software has the ability to accept other software.
Note: Apart from the pharmacy students’ software that I have used, I am not familiar with the rest of them. I do not recommend any software here but just for information.
