Benefits Of Sitting On Hot Water After Delivery
Sitting on hot water is called a sitz bath which is a warm, shallow bath for cleansing the perineal area. The practice seems logical. In fact, it is recommended that women who just gave birth can have a sitz bath. The reason is quite different.
Most women experience pain after delivery. Pain experience after normal delivery may not be as strong as that that came with complex delivery procedures. Simple drugs like ibuprofen will do.
However, sitting on hot water may be recommended in such cases. This increases blood flow to the area, helping it heal and repairing the tissues faster. It is not actually to flush out bad blood after delivery.
If you have stitches, it’s also important to keep the area clean to help the skin heal. A warm sitz bath can gently clean the area when it hurts to wipe.
When not performed well, it can cause burns and infection of wounds.
