Calcitone Tablet; Uses, Side Effect, Dosage

Calcitone is a tablet containing calcium. It is made by Meyer organic. Calcium is required for normal growth and development as well as maintenance of the skeleton. Calcium deficiency results in the weakening of the bones, frequent fractures.

Clinical Pharmacology

Calcium is absorbed predominantly from the small intestine by active transport & passive diffusion. Absorption is increased in calcium deficiency & during the periods of high physiological requirement such as childhood or pregnancy and lactation. Excess calcium is excreted. Unabsorbed calcium is eliminated in the faces. Minor amounts are lost in the sweat, skin, hair & nails. Calcium crosses the placenta and is distributed into breast milk.

Indications And Uses Of Calcitone Tablet

• As dietary calcium to meet the increased demand of calcium during adolescence, pregnancy, lactation, during and after menopause.

• old age, general debility

• Treatment of hypocalcemia

• Prevention and treatment of Osteoporosis

Dosage And Administration

Adults: 2 tablet two times a day after food

Children (6-12 years): 1 tablet two times a day

Or as directed by the Physician.

Contraindications

Dr. Meyer's Calcitone tablet is contraindicated during hypercalcemia, hyperparathyroidism, and patients with kidney stones.

Interactions

Dr. Meyer's Calcitone tablet shows interactions, like it decreases the absorption of tetracycline, bisphosphonates, fluoride, fluoroquinolones etc. It enhances cardiac effects on digitalis glycoside and may precipitate digitalis intoxication.

Warning

Individuals with renal impairment, hypercalcemia, and associated diseases should use Dr. Meyar's Calcitone tablets only under medical supervision.

Precautions

Precaution should be taken in patients with renal calculi or failure and in persons hypersensitive to the drug

Adverse Reactions

No serious adverse reactions are associated with the use of Calcium lactate tablets. However, some users may experience slight disturbance of the gastrointestinal tract such as flatulence, constipation etc.

Symptoms Of Overdose And Antidote

Excessive amounts of calcium may lead to hypercalcemia, symptoms c hypercalcaemia may include anorexia, nausea, vomiting, constipation abdominal pain, kindly consult with your physician in case of overdose.
