Vaseline is an American brand of petroleum jelly-based products owned by transnational company Unilever. It contains White petrolatum, the ingredient in petroleum jelly Vaseline, which is refined from petroleum.

While Vaseline can be used as a lubricant, it can also be used as a moisture insulator for local skin conditions characterized by tissue dehydration. It is not recommended for the use in the treatment 9f scabies.

There is no active ingredient in vaseline that can kill scabies. It is used to suffocate scabies. To suffocate the mite, a paste of vaseline is applied over the mite. Unfortunately, scabies have the ability to hold onto their breath for a long time. For this treatment to be effective, the vaseline must be thick and remain so for a long time.
