Composition Of Arthocare Forte

Each caplet contains:

Glucosamine sulfate potassium chloride USP 500 mg

Chondroitin sulfate sodium USP 400 mg

Methyl sulphonyl methane USP 250 mg

Vitamin E acetate (50% dry powder) 12.5 mg

Manganese (as Manganese sulfate MonoHydrate BP) 20 mg

Borax (as a source of Boron) BP 0.5 mg

Selenium (as Selenium dioxide USP) 0.06 mg

Chemistry

Glucosamine sulfate is -2-amino-deoxy-D-glucopyranose. Chondroitin is one of the predominant Glycosaminoglycans. It is the polymer of a repeating disaccharide unit of galactosamine sulfate and glucuronic acid. Methyl Sulphonyl Methane (MSM) is a metabolite product of dimethyl sulphoxide.

Clinical Pharmacology

Glucosamine stimulates chondrocytes to synthesize the cartilage building blocks and lysosomal enzymes which degrade cartilage. It stabilizes the cell membrane. It is an effective inhibitor of cyclooxygenase and inflammatory mediators, including bradykinin, serotonin and histamine.

Methyl Sulphonyl Methane (MSM) is helpful in improving joint flexibility, reducing stiffness and swelling, improving circulation and cell vitality, reducing pain and scar tissue and in breaking up calcium deposits.

Chondroitin sulfate is used for flexibility in joints and strengthens the muscle.

Vitamin E is an antioxidant that fights damaging natural substances known as free radicals. It helps in reducing discomfort in rheumatoid arthritis.

Boron is indirectly used as a proton donor.

Manganese is the preferred cofactor of enzymes leading to the synthesis of proteoglycans that is needed for the formation of cartilage and bone.

Selenium is an immune booster and also antioxidant.

Indications Of Arthocare Forte

Since it stimulates biosynthesis of cartilage and joint substances such as Hyaluronic acids, Arthocare Forte, a complete chondro-protective, is an approach of choice in osteoarthritis. It is also indicated for a number of joints related ailment which includes:

• Rheumatoid arthritis

• Low backache

•Fractures

• Osteosclerosis

• Ankylosing spondylitis

• Arthritis due to sport injury/active lifestyle

Eyes

For Uveitis, that is an inflammatory disease of the iris and focusing muscle. It is useful also in preventing changes in the vitreous humor (substance within the eye) and thus protecting the retina from release.

Precaution And Warning

Glucosamine may affect glucose homeostasis and be used with caution in diabetic patients, individuals with active peptic ulcer and those using diuretics should use Glucosamine cautiously as they may exhibit lower response.

Drug Interactions

Patients taking blood-thinning medications or daily aspirin should not take chondroitin sulfate, as it may contribute to bleeding.

Dosage And Administration Of Arthocare Forte

One caplet 2 to 3 times daily after food or as directed by the Physician.

Side Effects Of Arthocare Forte

The drug is generally well tolerated. The side effects reported as follows: epigastric distress, gastralgia, swollen stomach, loose stool, diarrhea, nausea, insomnia, headache, drowsiness.
