Function Of Units And Departments In PCN Office
The Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN) is the body charge with the responsibility of regulating the practice of pharmacy and related activities in Nigeria. To be able to carry out it's mandate successfully, it has a structure that is put in place to manage each of it's affairs. These structure are managed by persons at different capacity.
PCN has an office where these persons work. The office is located at Abuja. However, due to the size of the country, they established zonal and state offices to relay activities between pharmacist and the general public to the office at Abuja known as the headquarter.
The headquarter have a structure that both zonal and state offices copied. However, some of the units in the headquarter may be missing in the zonal and state offices. This maybe because some of the offices have been merge or those units are solely the responsibility of the headquarter.

The other office at the headquarters are divided into units and departments. There are 3 units and 7 departments.
This office is saddled with the responsibility of measuring the effectiveness of the system of internal control and accounting. When something goes out of place, they are legally charged to carry-out investigation into the matter. They do this by setting up a panel.
Legal Unit
They carry out legal advise on law arising from employee-employer relationship. They are also the custodian of legal documents and what have you.
Public Relation Service (PRS)
Just like every other public relations office, they enlighten, inform, sensitize and create awareness concerning the role of the agency to those who are interested. They also pass important information to those who need it.
They are in charge of documents and record. Registration begins with them. They receive and process administrative information.
Account
They process payment of any kind made to PCN. They convert bank tellers to PCN receipt. They may also be responsible for processing complain of salary.
Inspection And Monitoring
They send out their members to inspect new premises if they are suitable for operation. Those members are also responsible for monitoring those operation premises if they have fallen below standard. Complain about any premises performing outside their scope is entertained here.
Education And Training
They work hand in hand with schools in organising their course outline to suit modern trend. They also monitor the training of interns. This is the first office interns go to.

They set the standard for the practice of the profession. They make provision for the education of pharmacist and other healthcare team on new ways in the profession.
Proprietary Patent Medicine Vendors (PPMV)
This office handles thing related to patent medicine dealers. They create a record for them and give them direction how to go about their registration.
State and zonal offices do not have the three units. Each branch have a clerk and a secretary to clerk documents. Each office have a clerk and secretary that attends persons before seeing the person in charge. Also, the office of the security personnel is also vital as they keep a record of every visitor going in and coming out.

This is the highest office of PCN. It receive directive from the government and pass on to the other office and the general public. This also includes pharmacist, and other health care professionals. It is also the legal office that receive information and or complain from the other office including pharmacist and the general public and then relay it to the government for onward review.
