Drug production The first pharmaceutical drug manufacturing company in Nigeria is May & Baker in the 1940s. Ever since then, others have join the band wagon. With the federal government on the road to increase local production of drugs to cater for the growing population, foreign companies are setting up manufacturing plants within the country. There are more than 146 local manufacturing plants scattered all over the country. The bulk of them are located in the West and the East. Few can be found in the north and south. Most of their products are usually within the area where their plant is. Most of these companies produce one or more drugs depending on the capacity of the company. They are all into the production of generics with few diving into herbal supplements. Some are also into the importation of drugs.
